MARCH MADNESS

Well....March sure did get off to a great start ....NOT!! Tricia was busy taking care of sick children for a whole week. She blames the high fluctuation in the weather. We went from a low of 16 deg. and snow to a high of 84 deg. and plenty of sunshine. Thankfully her daffodils survived. This picture was taken at Sandy Bottom Nature Park.
Alex's basketball team is in the playoffs. Their regular season record was 7-3. Their team (The Celtics) won their first playoff game last week (single elimination) and have another game tomorrow night. He also participated in scouting events 3 weekends in a row. The latest was a ski trip to Massanutten Resort located in the Shenandoah Valley. He also earned his 1st Class Rank two weekends ago. We are pleased with his grades as he made the honor roll again, despite getting demerits for excessively talking in class...such the socializer.
Sophia was too sick to participate in the March swim meet. She is feeling better now and will be back at practice soon. She has one more swim meet left for the season. The 4th graders participated in "Colonial Days" at school. The students got to dress up in period clothing, ate some "colonial" food (Tricia made colonial oatmeal cookies), learned to write with a quill pen, participated in chores and played games. Sophia and her classmates will be visiting Colonial Williamsburg at the end of the month. She also made the honor roll again.

Matthew is growing like a weed and is doing well in school. He is turning 6 yrs. old at the end of the month. He was happy to lose his first tooth and have the tooth fairy come (thankfully the tooth fairy remembered this time). Recently, his kindergarten class had a "Circus theme" week and the kids got to dress up as clowns.

The Massanutten ski trip was crazy. Sunday was "Scout Discount Day" at the resort, so our troop piled into vans at 5am on Sunday and made the 3-hour journey into the Virginia hills. It was not quite as convenient as the 25 minute trips to West mountain we used to take. It was the first day of Daylight Savings Time, so the 0415 alarm felt like 0315. UGH. The mountain had a fair amount of snow considering it was in the mid 70's Saturday and Sunday. Ted and Alex have never skied when it was that warm. They both skied in their T-shirts. Alex did very well and successfully negotiated every black diamond trail on the hill. Not bad considering he has not been skiing in two years. Ted is ready to hang up his skis. The trip is just too far. There are some good pictures, however.....
