December 2010

This year has really flown by and now another decade is almost over! December has been a very busy month for everyone and I'm sure you are all experiencing the same thing. It has been unusually cold down in Virginia and it even snowed twice.

In December we usually take the family to go see a holiday light display somewhere. This year we opted to watch a lighted boat parade in downtown Hampton. We packed up a thermos of hot cocoa and some snacks, parked on the roof top of a parking garage right by the water and enjoyed a different kind of holiday lights show. The best part is that it was free.

As I mentioned earlier, it snowed twice. Last week the kids' school closed for one day and then the next day there was a 2 hr. delay (last day of school before break). All the other schools were still closed. I'm glad the kids got to go to school because I hate making up snow days.

 The kids were able to make a gingerbread house on their day off from school.

Ted took me on a trip to Mexico for a couple days. So thankful that my family was able to watch our kids. It was for my 40th birthday. We both had an amazing time (mostly spent at the beach) and we wished we could have stayed longer. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort (Iberostar Paraiso Maya) in the Riviera Maya region (south of Cancun). The weather was wonderful and the water was really a pretty turquoise blue. The Mexicans that worked at the hotel were the most friendliest and hard working people that we've ever met.

We went on one day trip to visit Chichen Itza (Mayan ruins) in the state of Yucatan. On the way there, our bus stopped at a agave plantation (used to make tequila) and a cenote (underground cave) where Ted was brave enough to face the cold water and go swimming. We stopped for a typical Mexican buffet lunch where a gift shop was located prior to entering the restaurant. In the shop, they offered all you can drink tequila for half an hour. We did not take advantage of this opportunity.

 We hope we can visit Mexico again and perhaps take the whole family down. It was a great way to relax and unwind!
